The middle name thing

Got tagged by Arizona...so here is my middle name thing. I'm using "anne" because I definitely do NOT want to use my maiden name...who would if their maiden name was as long as Kirschenheiter...

Here are the rules:

You must post the rules before you give your answers. You must list one fact about yourself for each letter of your middle name. Each fact must begin with that letter. If you don't have a middle name, just use your maiden name. After you've been tagged, you need to up-date your blog with your middle name and answers. At the end of your post, you need to tag one person for each letter of your middle name. (Be sure to leave them a comment telling them they've been tagged and need to read your blog for details).

A- Arc welding is something most people can safely say they have never done. Not me! I did arc welding in my machine shop class at Maritime. Along with metal work using a lathe, oxyacetaline cutting, case hardening etc. etc.

N- Naval architecture was my first college major and I spent two years at SUNY Maritime College in the Bronx studying it. I still love everything about ships and their inner workings, but I left the field to pursue writing. Silly me.

N- Nature lover here! I attended Department of Environmental Conservation education camps when I was younger and I still love hiking and climbing in our state parks. We have a bunch of them. I loved camping and hope to take the girls on camping trips when they are older.

E- Eric, my husband, and I met at our Tae Kwon Do school. We both attended the school together for MANY years before we even noticed each other. Actually he noticed me and asked a bunch of times if I would go to eat with him. I kept saying NO until our school owner's wife pushed and pushed and I said yes. The rest is history, as they say!

That's all. I have to figure out who I can tag. Most likely everyone blogger I know has already BEEN tagged...so I might not be able to tag anyone!! :-)

The pediatrician

Today was our February RSV shot appointment and I had forgotten how HEAVY it is to carry two babies in their carriers, along with a diaper bag that kept falling off my shoulder until I put it over my head -- where it proceeded to strangle me instead. Then the pediatrician's office can't have one entrance door, NO it has to have one door then a SECOND door to the right, so I have to bang into walls getting through the two of them and there is no chance the girls would remain asleep after I do that!

I get there 15 minutes early -- and end up waiting over half an hour because the previous baby has asthma and the doctor had to describe how to use the nebulizer thingy, and call the pharmacy, and so on and so forth. So I had my girls sitting on blankets on the bench because they were NOT about to sit in their carriers quietly for half an hour! I didn't let them touch anything but their blanket. When it was our turn, I lugged them into the office and learned I was now lugging 44 pounds of baby around, as they each weigh 22 pounds!

THe RSV dose they need now is large, so they get it in two shots. One in each arm. And when I'm trying to hold two babies, one who is getting shots, it isn't that easy. I gave Lily to the receptionist, Anna, to hold while we finished up with Eve. And now we have to go BACK next week bcause the snow prevented the lab from picking up blood samples so the girls didn't get their 9-month blood draw. UGH.

I got some samples of formula, the Enfamil concentrated liquid, and then had to figure out how to add THAT to my load when I was leaving. Thankfully a pharmaceutical rep was there and offered to carry it and open the doors for me. That was VERY nice! I wish more people were nice like that! I drow home in the HUGE snowflake flurries, which got heavier as we went. Now it is really snowing and I'm glad I don't have anywhere else to go. The babies aren't that grouchy, considering they got RSV shots. YAY I might give them a nice warm bath later and sit down and read or something. But right now, food...must make me some food. A pic...for you loyal readers.
Lily wouldn't fall asleep so I gave her a toy mirror to play with. I went back in a few minutes later and found her like this. I guess maybe she felt like she was sleeping with Eve?? :-)

Contemplation and Coolness

Pics speak for themselves...

Contemplation. She sure looks like she's thinking hard about something to me...(it's Lily...)

And Miss Coolness. (Eve at the nursing home visiting her great-grandmother)

Bounce away!

Hah, Lily likes the Johnny Jump Up thing! She took a few tries before she got the hang of the jumping but she seems to enjoy it now. Eve still hangs there, or rather spins in circles, and will eventually start to cry. It might just take a few more tries, or she might not like it at all. Here is Lily enjoying her new toy:

And some cute pics for your enjoyment, since I finally got around to uploading them from the camera! First is Eve, eating a toy as usual.

Second is just a cute Lily!

Eating and sleeping

Our girls have taken NO interest in holding their bottles. Today they took to baby food like it was the last food on earth finally. Usually they spit it all out. So it looks like they are ready. They are almost 7 months adjusted age, so it's about time, right? They just snacked on 1/2 a jar of rice cereal and applesauce. Eve would launch herself forward to get to the spoon. Lily just sat and waited, but kept pulling my HAND forward when I wasn't fast enough. They are not too messy anymore either so that's a good sign. I gave them 8 ounces this morning at 11 a.m when they decided to wake up finally. Then at 2:30 they got their half jar each and now they are playing. I'll offer them a 6 ounce bottle at 3:30 or so and see what they take. Our prob is the girls NEVER refuse a bottle or only drink part they drink they wholllllllle thing. And we already know for preemies they are big. Not obese big, but already caught up in size and in a higher percentile even for their actual age. So we worry they eat tooo much if you let them just go at it. I'll try giving them some peas for dinner. They tolerate squash, sweet potatoes, rice cereal, applesauce and carrots so far.

I've been surprised by their sleeping habits. Eve will go to bed at 10:30 and sleep until 11 the next morning without whining. Lily, on the other hand, wants to stay up til 1 a.m. and then will sleep until 11. I like the sleeping later sometimes but I think they are sleep a LOT at night. But even if I wake them up earlier, they don't go to sleep any better. Maybe they're just going through a phase or something. I'm clueless when it comes to sleeping and eating norms. And my ped isn't the best with advice. He's the "get-em-in-and-out" kind of appointments and I don't like it. As soon as we finish up the RSV season we are swtiching peds.

On the standing up, our girls love to stand up when you hold their hands (or their shirts). If you pull on their arms, they don't go into a sitting position they stand up. They both like sitting on the floor between pillows. They dont need the pillows much, but they scream if they hit the floor when the fall over, so this avoids them. They take toys away from each other now, but they don't really really play with each other. They do make noises at each other from across the room in bouncys sometimes which is cute. They each have two teeth. We haven't thought about anything SOLID yet, like finger stuff. I don't think they are ready for that! Some people I talk to on message boards are trying bananas and stuff already.

No signs of crawling yet. Sometimes I think they might go, but nope. Eve rolls all over. Lily just kind hangs out. I'd like them to crawl but at the same time, maybe not. It'd be nice so they can reach the toys they toss away but then I have to get the gate up and make sure they can't get anywhere dangerous.

Wake UP!

Since both girls seem to be REALLY awake at their bedtime, I am going to try to get them up earlier in the morning. Apparently they are sort of up around 9:30, but don't CRY until 10:30 sometimes 11 now. They fall back asleep! And i think that might be making them stay up later and later, which is becoming a problem. So I went in and got them this morning at 9:30 and they are eating now at 10. Instead of up at 10:30, eating at 11. The hour might help, who knows. They seem happy about it. Tonight will probably tire them out anyway because Eric and I are going out somewhere for Valentines Day and dropping them off at their grandparents' house. So it is going to be a long night for them (and us...) We aren't sure where we are going yet but we'll find something.

Right now I have to get the place semi-cleaned up for when (or if at this point) the hazard insurance claims adjuster comes to check out our water damage. We had a mini-Niagara Falls in the house. This one wall, which is partially redone, has a cascade of water running through it. If we hadn't had a piece of sheetrock off still, we would only have see the water seeping through the joints and not the extent of how MUCH water is really running through the wall. It was literally a constant drip that filled about 6 full sized bath towels during the day yesterday before it slowed down. And this is drenching 100+ year old wood framing! So I called the insurance company, because it is OBVIOUSLY a roof leak. They said to get a contractor in here and fix the leak (patch, whatever) asap. Of course the company I've contacted has YET to call me back. If they don't respond by noon or 1ish, I am going to have to call someone else. ERic's father is a contractor, but we're afraid having the same last name as the contractor we hire might jeopardize the claim or something. I'M worried that not getting the leak fixed NOW is going to jeopardize it. We probably have like 48 hours from the leak's discovery or some crazy, impossible-to-obey rule like that. It be so LIKE the insurance industry.

Anyway, the girls are playing on the floor between a bunch of pillows. It's the best way to keep them from toppling. They CAN sit up for a long time, but if they get overzealous they fall over and bang their head and get upset and I might as well build them a pillow-fort! If I locate the camera cable, I COULD post pictures. But I can't seem to find it right now.

New layout

SO, my husband and I spent 12 hours...yes, that is a LOT of hours, making our living room our dining room! Switching the rooms! It was nuts, and we had to remove and move a massive built-in entertainment center, but the way itis now gives us MUCH more room and the living room is now cozy and warm feeling. We DID block off a doorway, but I LIKE it. Of course, when we move, which we will someday, we'll have to remove the built-in thingy and reopen that doorway for buyers. This is OUR style, not theres. But really, the new looks and the open space is SO much nicer. We're not done, I am going to try to finish up the rest of the organization/moving/cleaning up. (Yeh, ME cleaning and not complaining about it.) I'm sure I'll run out of steam, but this is good for now. I'll try to post pics, just cuse sometimes it's neat to be able to SEE what someone is talking about!!!

I have been offered ANOTHER temp job at my old employer but I'm not so sure I want to take this one. They are trying to leave it so open-ended that I'm afraid they are going to try to push too many hours on me because they won't give me a definitive "here is what you would work." The county gov't reporter, which was my old job, is taking a 4-5 week leave of absence and they need someone to cover her meetings. FINE. For two weeks out of the month (the final two) that would be 1-2 meetings Mon-Thurs for only 30 minuts to an 1 at most. Sometimes you get a story, sometimes you don't. NOW, if they just wanted me to go and cover the meetings, then go home and write up anything I get, that would be fine. BUT they are trying to push me to "man the office" a couple nights a week too and I don't WANT to do that. It's why I left the job in the irst place. I don't want to work all day with the kids and then work ALL night at the office. So, I'm in a dilemma. I'd like the extra money, but I don't want to do anything more than cover her meetings or do stories she might have been assigned. And FROM HOME. None of this office stuff. I mean, c'mon, this is EXACTLy the job I left to take care of the babies, how could they even imagine that I'd come back on a temp basis to do it!? I don't know. I'm temped to just fill in for her next week and let them get someone else to do the rest. Money is wonderful but at the expense of sanity???

Lily is still being a cranky butt at bed time. She is WIDE awake from 11 to about 12:30 in the morning and it is annoyyyyyyying. You try to put her in bed, it's a scream fest. But you sit her on the couch and she's happy to bang on the pillows. Thankfully I was up anyway last night, so I put her to bed when I went up to bed and she cried for a few minutes then fell asleep. They're napping now so I'm going to see about some lunch.

Award?! Me? Wow!

I got a blog award! My first ever!!! Debra, whose advice as a mommy has definitely helped me already, and whose Coupon blog is one of my new favorite places, passed on this award:

Gosh, I don't know how to pass it along because most likely everyone on my list has already gotten it from someone else! But I'll look around anyway. (Hey, seeing as it's a "Make my Day Award", I could pass it BACK to you, Debra! :-) )
Seriously though, whether she got one already or not, I would like to pass this to Arizona because all her comments on my blog have really made my day lately! I love chatting with people and it DOES seem we have a bunch in common!!!
Gotta go now, work tonight and one not-so-happy baby in the bouncy seat!

Hmmm...

My dad forwarded me the following e-mail:

"VICK's Vapor Rub. During a lecture on Essential Oils, they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and within20 minutes you can 'taste' it.Some of us have used Vicks Vaporub for years for everything from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've never heard of this. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time, although the scientists who discovered it aren't sure why. To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing willstop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.Just happened to tune in A.M. Radi o and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good, due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so, I listened. It was a surprise finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly. My wife tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in afew minutes and believe me, this was a deep, (incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough-free for hours every night that she used it.If you have grandchildren, pass this on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed at how it works."

Anyone heard of such a thing?? I might try it on myself if I get another cough. And if it is safe for kids...that would be great if it works! Thought I'd share and see if anyone had heard of it/done it/or wanted to try it!

Jars of fun

Since the girls are over 6 1/2 months adjusted age, we have branched out on our jar food into the 2nd foods category. Though we still use 1st foods too. We've been going at this off and on because the babies just weren't getting it, but today they did well so we will try more. We are giving the rice cereal and applesauce a try since they haven't had trouble with rice cereal before. Next we think we'll try the sweet peas. Ped said we could start with "yellow veggies" and rice cereal, then try green veggies. So that's sort of what we are doing. But as some of you know, our ped isn't the greatest and we plan on changing so any feeding tips or advice from you more experience moms would be most welcome.

Lily has the whole open her mouth thing down pat, but Eve keeps her mouth sealed around her tongue, which she sticks out and tries to lick the spoon with. Sometimes she'll open her mouth and get the spoonful easily but most of the time it's not so simple! I'm hoping she figures it out better soon. I honestly don't think my girls would STOP eating if given a chance to keep going. SO, if I give them each a half a jar of 2nd foods, which are bigger than the Beech Nut 1st food jars and then give them 4 ounces of formula, is that too much or too little, do you think? They yelled for a minute after the bottles then were fine. So I don't know if they were still hungry or had had enough and were justbeing buttheads.

Thankfully, though Eve doesn't open her mouth much, they also don't spit the food back out and make a royal mess. There was some food on their bibs, but nothing major. We'll see what happens when we find a food they don't like too much. (Wondering if it will be peas. Dad doesn't like peas!)

Nothing particularly funny today yet. It's a cleaning day. I find it much easier to clean up when I have my husband here because then we are both doing something and its harder to slack off without feeling like a total idiot or lazy lump! And it's more entertaining for the girls, I guess, because they are content to play and watch us so we don't have to do much with them.

Helping hand

Just a cute little episode so far today. Eve decided to "help" Lily roll over -- all so that she could put her OWN hand in Lily's mouth. One of these days, Lily, who has the sharper, further out teeth, is going to bite down on her sister's hand. Then Eve might let her alone. She loves to put her hands in her sister's mouth. I guess it's more exciting then her own? Who knows! Here's the roll assistance:

AND, Eve's prize:

Looks like they STILL like to try and occupy the same space. They are always on top of each other these days. Usually ends up pissing one of them off after a while. I would get a little perturbed if someone kept sticking their fingers in my mouth or pulling tufts of hair too, I guess. I'm sure it will escalate when they are older, they just seem to be getting an early start.

Question for all you preemie moms, and I'll probably post it on the momo site too, when did you peds give you the OK to switch to the Next Step infant formula -- for 9 to 24 months? At adjusted or actual 9 months? My aunt got us a bunch from her peds office. It's good til 2009, so I'm not worried about it going bad, just wondering how long we have to store it so I know how far to pack it away!

Timer work

So, I gave Debra's timer cleaning a try and did pretty well. Of course that's probably because we had a horrible night and I didn't want to deal with it again tonight, so this was a way of trying to avoid it. The girls were pretty cooperative, took two nice long naps and didn't fuss much. They tend to be worse at night. My frustration for today stems from the fact I can't cook for my LIFE! I'm still waiting for the meal to finish in the oven and it has been 45 minutes. So much for the 30 minutes that it was supposed to take. MY Pink meat isn't done... Sometimes it just gets So depressing when you try and don't get a good outcome. I have made this before and it has been great, but this time is a doozy.

I'm currently looking for a good, salty potato salad recipe. I had one that I made for a bridal shower and everyone went nutters over. But I proceeded to lose it! I haven't been able to locate it again, so I keep looking. I know it has vinegar and used red potatos...but that's SO MANY potato salads! LOL, I'll be looking til I'm 50.

Aside from that cooking frustration today has been a decent day. We have the receipt for the carseats and are going to return them and get ones that rear-face until 35 pounds. HOPEFULLY it will work out all right! The girls have a month or so use left in the infant seats, so we have that long to get and install new seats.

Teething and sleep

Lily is miserable. Completely. She is still up and everytime I put her in bed she screams and screams and screams and chews her hand. This is worse than her cutting the two bottom teeth. Did anyone notice certain teeth coming through produced more crying and fussiness than others? I'm not able to figure out where this one is coming through, but I have never had such a problem getting her to sleep! She ate at 9 p.m., we took her back down at 11 p.m. and gave her a 5 ounce bottle. It's a quarter to 1 a.m. and she is still fussing. She is obviously exhausted! It might be a Tylenol night...though I am loathe to do it.

I had a hard day today and another "Zero Motivation" day to fret over. I couldn't get going. It didn't help that I had a migraine from about 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Or that I feel like hubby's actions and attitude are screaming, you stay home all day but do nothing, you are a lazy worthless ass. He doesn't SAY that, but I feel like he is thinking and sometimes I feel it myself. I am going to do something tomorrow, I am going to do something tomorrow. Really. We'll see if I do when I post tomorrow night. I think half my prob is the TV which I watch movies, DVDs of shows -- and the computer, which I live on. Perhaps I have to unplug the TV or have Eric take the remotes to work. Of put my computer away or something so I can avoid the temptation. AHHHHHHH.

And I caught a cute baby sleeping picture I"ll try to post tomorrow as well. I'll take ANY advice on getting a move on. Thanks to Debra for her advice on the original post. Keep it coming, whoever gets on here.

Car seats

I'm probably complaining to myself here but hey, so what!? We got new car seats for the girls, but lo and behold, we can't use them! I have to call and see if Grandma M. has the receipt still because the store will accept them back. The problem is that they DON'T face the rear and despite our pediatrician saying it's FINE as long as they are 20 lbs, everyone else on the planet says it isn't fine until they are 12 months old. SO, yeh stuck with carseats that cost a pretty penny and can't be used but need to be used because the girls are one pound away from the limit on their infant seats! Fun stuff.
I found one that I like, if we can swing this return. The Evenflo Titan Elite is good rearfacing up to 35 pounds and forwardfacing up to 50 pounds. While I like the IDEA of the three in ones that work from infant to like 100 pounds, we can't afford to spend over $300 on car seats at this point. We can't afford all the medical bills, let alone that at the moment. And HOPEFULLY the girls rapid weight gain will slow down and they will not be 50 pounds for a while. The Titan is only $100, which for us seems like a lot, but the ones we have now were like $70 or $80 and unusuable. And if these last long, then I guess the money is worth it. The ratings and the user reviews on the Titan are pretty positive too which is important. I just wish we didn't have to go through the whole return thing. Plus, the local stores (in a 100 mile radius) don't carry the Titan so we have to order it online if we decide to purchase it. I did a few comparisons, and ifffff Burlington Coat Factory does their multiple discount on carseats and online orders we could get 10 percent off the Titans, which they carry. If NOT, we might as well get them at Wal-Mart online because they are about the same price anyway.
I just hope that it gets easier to get the girls in and out of carseats. I feel like I'm bending their leg in half to get them into their infant carrier seats nowadays and I hate it! And when we click them intot he stroller, whoever is in back looks like they are going to have their feet squashed by the front carseat! All around crappy situation.
Then there's the issue that the stroller without the carseats in it does NOT look remotely comfortable. THe baby in front looks like she is going to fall out, the one in back is either ramrod straight or laying down! So yeh let me tell you, someeeeeetimes saving a little on the financial end is NOT worth it in the long run.
And I have to say this, I want to run our dog through with a samurai sword right now. She barks and growls at EVERY single sound and the babies are napping, finally, and she is GOING to wake them up. Darn terrier.

Introduction...

Okay, I've decided to start another blog! This one is still all about the twins, but less about updating family about the milestones and more about sharing my "mom" stories and chattering about what's going on at home with the girls! It's not that I don't want my family to read these posts, but it is more for my fellow twin/triplets/multiple children mom friends who can sympathize with me than it is for my Marine brother and old school friends! I know, I'm crazy. I have a Livejournal that I use to talk to complete strangers and sometimes I LIKE the anonymity! I can say what I need to and not worry about it climbing around the family rumor tree like a rabid squirrel.

So first order of business: What are the twins up to these days?

That's easy. Making noise. They LOVE to make noise. Shrieking, yelling (for lack of a better term), gibbering, etc. etc. And they think it's the best game in the WORLD to jerk on toys and make them clank around and of course to shake things as hard as they can and more often than not lose grip and fling them. It's funny! They also use rolling as their only form of movement so far, but they've rolled to interesting places...

And as all teething babies are wont to do:

YUM!

I can't count how many times I have to clean spit-uppy slobber off of their toys! But hey, that's life right?

Now for you experienced Moms out there: How in the WORLD do you SAHM stop yourselves from lounging around all day and just hanging out with the kids? I can't seem to find the motivation to do ANYTHING else and it is starting to become a problem. I've always been computer-obssessed, but this is getting ridiculous. I can't seem to bring myself to clean up the house until it looks like a cyclone hit the place and I rarely make myself anything healthy to eat. I'm afraid if I can't get out of this rut it is going to only get worse and I want to be up and functioning before the babies depend on me for meals OTHER than formula in a bottle. Any suggestions? Could it still be some form of depression? I mean, I've had problems with it in the past, so it wouldn't REALLY surprise me. THe problem is I have no insurance and can't afford to get prescriptions!

Til next time!
